despite作介詞有“不管”、“不在乎”、“雖有”的意思，作名詞有“侮辱”、“憎恨”、“輕蔑的拒絕或不承認(rèn)”的意思。despite用作介詞時，與in spite of同義，都表示“盡管”、“雖然”、“不顧”之意，放在句首時，要接具體的成分。
