周二寫了一個帖子，探討EMC XtremIO停止開發(fā)的可行性。周三我看EMC官微寫了一個澄清的帖子。其實，西瓜哥的影響力真的沒有那么大，我看一下文章的閱讀數(shù)不到3000。我知道每種架構(gòu)都有其優(yōu)缺點，沒有完美的架構(gòu)，看你如何抉擇了，停不停都會有充足的理由。其實辟謠最直接的不是說XtremIO賣得好，不會停。而是應(yīng)該針對XtremIO架構(gòu)的問題，提出解決方案和路標。最簡單的就是告訴用戶什么時候支持大容量SSD，不只是新建，包括現(xiàn)在部署的XtremIO擴容時也最好可以支持15TB大容量的SSD，支持未來向全閃存數(shù)據(jù)中心演進，這樣謠言就不攻自破了。

其實客戶考慮主要還是成本問題。如果XtremIO不盡快支持大容量SSD，性價比就很難和HP 3PAR 8450（雖然還不支持壓縮）和NetApp ALL FLASH FAS（重刪壓縮都支持）競爭。我剛才看來一下某咨詢公司的數(shù)據(jù)，2016Q1，在中國區(qū)，XtremIO已經(jīng)被HP 3PAR 8450超過，已經(jīng)不是市場第一了。

其實從公司的歷史去看，一個產(chǎn)品架構(gòu)總是有其歷史周期的。比如原來Symmetrix DMX也賣得很好，但2009年EMC還是切換到VMAX架構(gòu)，CPU從Power PC切換到X86，從緊耦合走向松耦合，解決了DMX的擴展性問題同時降低了成本。雖然也還叫Symmetrix，其實架構(gòu)已經(jīng)改得面目全非了。XtremIO的架構(gòu)，如果要往下走，也必然會不斷演進，但架構(gòu)改變太多，那時候叫不叫XtremIO，那個只是宣傳問題。比如現(xiàn)在EMC的中端為了體現(xiàn)其是全新的架構(gòu)，叫Unity，故意不繼承VNX的命名，也是為了宣傳的需要。這個也反映了EMC的Marketing還是非常厲害的，高端看品牌和穩(wěn)定性，因此不管架構(gòu)如何變，一直都叫Symmetrix系列。但中端追求創(chuàng)新，因此名字就經(jīng)常變化。

說到這，我突然想起EMC馬上10月份就要被合并了，變成DELL-EMC了。是時候回顧一下EMC歷史的時候了。

我剛學存儲的時候，特別想學習存儲的歷史，想從歷史中感悟存儲發(fā)展的一些規(guī)律?？墒菦]有找到比較好的材料，因此入門費了很多時間。鑒于EMC在業(yè)界的地位，從1979年創(chuàng)立到2016年被DELL收購，37年的光輝歲月，足以反映外部存儲市場產(chǎn)業(yè)從無到有，從盛到衰的歷史軌跡。
