Who was the greatest Indian chief of all?

Many people say it was Sitting Bull.

很多人說是坐牛。

Sitting Bull was a Hunkpapa.

坐牛是洪克帕帕人。

(You say it like this: HUNK-pa-pa.)

His tribe lived on the Great Northern Plains, where they hunted buffalo.

他的部族居住在北部大平原，他們在那里獵殺野牛。

When Sitting Bull was a boy, everyone called him Slow.

當坐牛還是小個男孩時，大家都叫他慢性子。

It was the right name for him.

這是一個很適合他的名字。

He ate slowly.

他吃東西很慢。

He moved slowly.

He even talked slowly.

他連說話也很慢。

But he was watching and learning all the time.

When Slow was only ten years old, he killed his first buffalo.

Now he was a hunter.

But more than anything, Slow wanted to be a great warrior.

All he had was a long red stick.

But that was all he needed.

Striking an enemy with a coup stick was the bravest thing a warrior could do.

When the men came near the Crow, Slow raced ahead of everyone else.

當男人們接近克勞人時，慢性子沖到了所有人的前面。

A Crow warrior saw Slow coming.

一個克勞人戰(zhàn)士看到慢性子沖過來。

The Crow raised his bow and arrow to shoot.

那個克勞人就舉起弓箭射他。

But Slow was quick!

但是慢性子很敏捷!

He hit the warrior with the coup stick, knocked the bow out of his hands, and galloped away.

他用擊棒擊向那個戰(zhàn)士，把他手里的弓箭打落然后飛馳走開了。

That night the Hunkpapas sat together under the stars.

那天晚上洪克帕帕人圍坐在星空下。

"Now," Slow's father said to his son, "you are a warrior!"

“現(xiàn)在，”慢性子的爸爸對他兒子說，“你成了一個勇士了！”

He gave Slow a new name, a name full of power - Sitting Bull.

他給慢性子取了一個新名字，一個充滿力量的名字——坐牛。

Soon there were many stories about Sitting Bull.

很快，很多關(guān)于坐牛的故事流傳了起來。
